School of International Education
Lanzhou Jiaotong University ( LZJTU ) (formerly Lanzhou Railway University ) was established in 1958 through the combination of departments and sections from two highly reputable Chinese railway institutes: Tangshan Railway Institute (the present Southwest Jiaotong University) and Beijing Railway Institute (the present Beijing Jiaotong University). In April 2003, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the name of Lanzhou Railway University was changed to Lanzhou Jiaotong University. After 50 years of construction and development, LZJTU ranks as a comprehensive university with catachrestic in engineering but coordinated and balanced multidisciplinary development in the fields as natural science, liberal arts, economics and management.
School of International Education is in charge of teaching and administration of international students at LZJTU. With modern teaching facilities and a competent teaching faculty, the School offers different Chinese programs to international students. Since it started to enroll self-financed international students in 2005 and the international students under China Government
Scholarship Programme in 2008, LZJTU has gained invaluable experiences in the international education and the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language. It now offers various programs at different levels, ranging from short-term Chinese lessons, degree and non-degree Chinese language programs to the Master’s and doctoral programs in teaching Chinese as a foreign language. Over the past 7 years, these programs have benefited some 1,500 international students. Currently there are more than 200 fulltime international students studying for long-term programs and for short-term academic visits and training from more than 20 countries, including Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Korea, Pakistan, Nigeria, Ghana, Yemen, Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Mongolia, Laos, Vietnam, Rwanda, Sudan and so on.
